The process of temporary heating has begun on the second block of coke oven battery No. 11

On the second block of coke oven battery No. 11 at the Severstal facility, the process of temporary heating has been started. Unlike classic-type batteries, temporary heating is performed automatically using a software package.
Before the start of drying and heating, the specialists of "Koksokhimontazh" mounted the anchorage of the coke battery, temporary gas pipelines and gas-air valves. The total weight of the installed equipment was 2,915 tons.
Now the battery has been handed over to the Customer's specialists for drying: they will have to dry the refractory masonry of the battery efficiently and carefully. To do this, the temperature in it will be raised gradually to 130 degrees Celsius for two weeks. After the masonry is dried, the temperature in the battery will be increased according to the heating schedule to 800 degrees.
The refractory masonry is sandwiched between the armor, anchor columns and buttresses using transverse and longitudinal ties. Under the conditions of temperature exposure, the masonry will grow. The growth of refractories is fixed by 3442 spring blocks, which will gradually shrink. Installers will adjust the compression of spring blocks in order to maintain a strictly set load on each spring node, which will allow the refractory masonry to ensure gradual and uniform growth. Then it is necessary to adjust the edging mechanism, which is a device for uniform alternation of gas combustion flows and flue gas discharge.
According to the technology, gas is supplied to every second burner. The whole algorithm is already familiar to the Customer's specialists, because the first block of KB-11 has been completed and is in the hot commissioning stage, as is the main infrastructure of the unit.

The temporary warm-up will last about 3 months. The next stage is the transition to permanent heating, which will be maintained throughout the life of the unit.
